Who We Are

About Us

Welcome to the Center for Community Engagement, Learning and Leadership, or CCELL. CCELL works with university faculty, students, administrators and community partners to facilitate service-learning and community-engaged research while strengthening LSU's commitment to being an exemplar of an engaged public research university. The Center promotes the integration of teaching, research and service to encourage civic responsibility and to enhance learning and social accountability.

Our Work

CCELL strives to develop and promote mutually beneficial campus community partnerships built on integrity and respect. CCELL works with more than 90 faculty each year to develop approximately 170 classes in 40 different LSU departments. In these classes, more than 3,500 students partner with 100 community non-profit organizations to provide community service that enhances their learning. Students gain a deeper understanding of course content and civic responsibility while community nonprofits receive free, specialized services.

Our Service-Learning Faculty Advisory Board

The Service-Learning Faculty Advisory Board, composed of LSU faculty from every college, articulates and promotes CCELL's objectives. The board develops strategies and provides leadership to advance service-learning funding, policy, curriculum development, scholarship, assessment and special events.

Awards

CCELL, service-learning faculty and community partners have won many awards for LSU, and all have presented at regional, national and international conferences. CCELL has provided faculty training at many universities as well. Most recently, LSU was honored with the 2015 Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National & Community Service,
