The Manship Scholar Award is the highest honor awarded by the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication. This prestigious scholarship offers $10,000 per year to an exceptional out-of-state high school senior with aspirations to pursue a career in mass communication. Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Manship Scholar Award, applicants must:

  • Be an out-of-state high school senior planning to major in mass communication.
  • Demonstrate a superior scholastic record.
  • Exemplify a strong writing talent.

The recipient of the Manship Scholar scholarship must maintain a minimum cumulative/LSU GPA of 3.6, be enrolled as a full-time student, and major in mass communication within the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication; the scholarship is renewable for up to four years or until graduation.


Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  1. Completed Application Form: Complete the form below.
  2. Essay (500-750 words): Highlight your community outreach and volunteer experiences, demonstrating your commitment to making a difference through communication. Attach your essay to this form at the end.
  3. Résumé: Include academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and relevant experience. Attach your resume to this form at the end.
  4. High School Transcript: Demonstrating a strong academic record. Attach your transcript to this form at the end.
  5. Two Writing Samples: Showcase your skills in journalism, storytelling, persuasive communication, or media production. Attach your 2 writing samples to this form at the end.
  6. Two Letters of Recommendation: From educators, mentors, or community leaders who can attest to your character, work ethic, and potential in mass communication. Attach your 2 letters of recommendation to this form at the end.

All uploads MUST be PDF format. Applications are due by April 28, 2025. The Scholar will be notified by May 30, 2025.
