LSU Vet Med opens International Exhibition on Animals in Art on October 4 with reception
The art exhibition will run through October 31.
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine opens the 31st Annual International Exhibition on Animals in Art with an opening reception on October 4, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the LSU Vet Med Library. The show runs through October 31. The exhibition is free and open to the public every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Matriarchy is a pen and paint pen drawing by Dr. Isabel Grazian, a former LSU Vet Med shelter medicine intern, who was accepted into the 2024 International Exhibition on Animals in Art.
One hundred and fifty (150) artists representing 30 states, Canada, Germany, Guatemala, and Turkey submitted 302 entries for the show. Of those 302 entries, 60 entries have been selected for the exhibition.
The exhibition is open annually to artists 18 years of age or older. All media are welcomed and accepted; the work must be original. A Best of Show award will be given and one entry will be chosen to appear on the cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Other awards include the Judge’s Award, Honorable Mention, the People’s Choice Award, and the School of Veterinary Medicine Awards. All items in the International Exhibition on Animals in Art are for sale.
A 20 percent commission on each piece sold goes to benefit the LSU Vet Med Artist-in-Residence Program. You can also support the art show by making a donation. Make checks payable to LSU Foundation with “Animals in Art” on the memo line.
This year our juror and judge is Callie Smith, Museum Educator and Public Programs Manager at the Louisiana State University Museum of Art, where she develops community-centered programs that reflect her belief in art as both nourishing and essential to wellbeing. Her experience in art and education spans both teaching and learning, shaped by her MFA in Creative Writing and a doctorate in English. Her research and work are rooted in how art fosters empathy and awareness, particularly in relation to animals. Beyond the museum, she enjoys running and spending time with her cats.
